Specialist Obstetrician & Gynaecologist

Dr Efe Obudu is a specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist who has lived on the Mornington Peninsula since 2016. He is a highly experienced, caring, and compassionate doctor who brings a wealth of experience from some of the world’s best hospitals to Frankston.

As a senior Women’s Health team member at Peninsula Health (Frankston Hospital) for many years, Dr Obudu has led teams that deliver many improvements for women. Throughout most of 2020, he was the acting clinical director of the Women’s Health Unit at Peninsula Health.

Dr Obudu spent his undergraduate years in Lagos and Nigeria, establishing women’s health clinics and medical education services. He then relocated to the UK and completed his postgraduate studies in obstetrics and gynaecology, achieving the certificate of completion of training CCT from the General Medical Council UK. He attained the specialist qualification Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists MRCOG UK in 2009. He completed advanced training modules in advanced labour ward practice and is experienced in high-risk pregnancy.

Dr Obudu is also a fellow and examiner of junior doctors for the Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists. He completed further training in advanced laparoscopic and hysteroscopic (keyhole) surgery in England at the University of Surrey.

Since obtaining additional postgraduate qualifications in advanced laparoscopic surgery, Dr Obudu has been imparting these skills to the next generation of doctors through his passionate teaching work. He is a strong believer in the benefits of keyhole surgery, such as quicker recovery, safety, less pain and bleeding, a shorter stay in the hospital, and much nicer cosmetic results.

Before relocating to Frankston, he lived and worked in New Zealand after relocating from the UK with his family. He worked at two of the busiest tertiary maternity hospitals in Auckland and Christchurch.

Dr Obudu has presented his work at local, national, and international meetings via speaking commitments and published work. He is a believer that clinical audit helps improve the quality of healthcare delivery.

A lover of the great outdoors, Dr Obudu enjoys spending his downtime in the picturesque natural environment that surrounds the Mornington Peninsula. He is also an adjunct lecturer in the Peninsula Clinical School at Monash University. He is passionate about teaching the next generation of medical students and junior doctors.

Dr Obudu is very excited to be the only practitioner offering laparoscopic robotic surgery for gynaecological conditions on the Mornington Peninsula.
